We are losing these amazing stories at a rate of nearly 1,000 a day in the United States alone. We feel it is extremely important to capture these tremendous personal accounts, to share with future generations, before it is too late.
These men and women, and their stories, are the true treasures of our nation.

Lt. Ray Parker was a navigator on a B-24 bomber during World War II. He flew his first mission under the command of Major Jimmy Stewart, the movie star. On their 10th mission his plane was shot down behind enemy lines. He survived the parachute jump to be quickly captured by the Germans. Ray then risked his life to keep up the spirits of the 9,000 prisoners of war at Stalag Luft 1 by writing the underground newspaper.
With the help of a radio hidden in a wall of the British barracks, Ray was able to get timely information on how the war was progressing and secretly edit together a daily paper that was stealthily passed around the four compounds of the camp. He evaded being found out by the prison guards up until the very last month of the war.

This project is a “Thank You” to the men and women who fight and work and sacrifice so that we can live free and safe.
